Gold prices hit record high as anxious investors seek safe haven for money

The price of gold has climbed recently as investors scramble for safety amid the widening global trade war. It’s up nearly 5% since May 21, 2019, as stock markets around the world fell, and last week was the best of the year for gold after President Donald Trump surprised markets by threatening to raise tariffs on Mexico. Gold futures have soared above $4,000 US per troy ounce for the first time, as many investors seek a safe place to park their money as the U.S. government shutdown continues.
